RAS AL KHAIMAH, the northern-most Emirate of the UAE

We left the hustle and bustle of Dubai where one is surrounded by the framework of skyscrapers, stretching up to touch the sky.  By the time we are approaching the neighbouring Emirate of Sharjah the skyline is changing and is dominated by the outline of the beautiful University.  Thankful that we have filled our car with petrol prior to our departure, as there is not a petrol station in sight, we continue towards Ras Al Khaimah.  The golden sand, as we advance becomes a rich terracotta colour: a sign that we are nearing the most northern of the UAE's Emirates.

Nous sommes partis du tourbillon de Dubaī où on est toujours entouré par le cadre de grattes ciels qui s' à toucher le ciel. En arrivant dans l’Emirat voisin Sharjah l’horizon change et il est dominé par la silhouette de son Université, si belle.   Content d’avoir fait le plein avant de partir, puisque il n’y a pas de station d’essence sur la route, nous continuons vers Ras Al Khaimah.  Le sable doré, en avançant, change de couleur et devient la même couleur que de la terre cuite.

Just 80 minutes after leaving home we arrive at Ras Al Khaimah whose border is shared with, Oman. Its name means Top of The Tent.  The capital city of the Emirate is also called Ras Al Khaimah and unlike in Dubai, there is barely a skyscraper in sight.  Instead, in the background, are the imposing Hajar mountains which in 2004 and 2009 were topped with snow!

80 minutes après d’être sortis de chez nous, nous arrivons à Ras Al Khaimah, le plus nord des émirats des Emirats Arabes Unis avec une frontière avec Oman. Son nom veut dire Le sommet de la tente. Le capital de cet Emirat s’appelle aussi Ras Al Khaimah et à la différence de Dubaï, il y a à peine un gratte ciel à voir.  En revanche, derrière le cité il y a les montagnes de Hajar qui, en 2004 et 2009, avaient de la neige aux sommets.

Ras Al Khaimah does not produce oil but instead has developed numerous industries including RAK Ceramics, RAK bank and RAK Insurance as well as pharmaceutical companies.

Ras Al Khaimah ne produit pas de pétrole mais a développé plusieurs industries y compris des Céramiques de RAK, la Banque National de RAK et RAK Assurance.

 But for us though, our visit to Ras Al Khaimah was to benefit from the Emirate's slower pace and we were to spend four days here, relaxing and enjoying the coast.  

Mais pour nous, notre visite à Ras Al Khaimah était pour profiter, pendant quatre jours, du rythme plus lent de ce Emirat.  Nous voulions nous reposer et de profiter du littoral qui est si beau.

We benefited enormously from the change of pace and the alternate scenery, and needing the absolute minimum of effort to arrive here, we are planning another visit to the Northern Emirates before the heat of summer arrives!

Nous nous sommes régalés, avec le minimum d’effort que nous pensons de prendre encore un séjour au nord des Emirats Arabes Unis, avant que la chaleur de l’été arrive.
